Navegaon Core & Buffer Safari
Whenever we talk about the Navegaon Buffer, Chota Matka is usually the first name that springs to mind. But for the last three and a half years, the true king of the Core zone has been a male tiger named Mowgli. Right now, he rules the territory alongside his two mates, Bijli and Babli. Bijli comes from the famous bloodline of Choti Tara; Babli is rumoured to be related to the legendary Maya, possibly as a sibling — while we still need to verify the exact facts, the possibility alone is incredibly exciting. You can't really talk about Chota Matka and the buffer zone without mentioning Jharni — a legendary tigress whose descendants have travelled remarkably far, with her bloodline now reaching all the way to Sahyadri. Mowgli's own legacy is also expanding through the forest: Junior Mowgli has claimed his own territory and currently rules one half of the forest in the Keslaghat area, while Charger, another formidable male from the lineage, holds sway over the Shirkheda Buffer. Tadoba is a land woven with incredible stories. Whenever you enter a new zone accompanied by the local guides, gypsy drivers, and naturalists, you get a deep sense of that specific area's history — learning which legendary tigers used to rule there and which ones dominate the landscape today. One such captivating name is Nayantara, who belongs to the Bhanuskhindi and Chota Matka bloodline. Her mother, the Bhanuskhindi tigress, originally belonged to the Core zone. However, when it came time to raise her four cubs, she moved them to the safety of the Ramdegi Temple area, successfully bringing up all four against the odds. Today, Nayantara can be spotted in the tourism zone. True to her name, she has stunningly beautiful eyes and is widely considered one of the most breathtaking tigresses in all of Tadoba. Every single time you venture into Tadoba with us, you don't just see the wildlife — you uncover the rich, living history of the jungle. Best to book this package 120 days in advance.
